I am deeply honored to be a part of Laurie’s tribe and to have had the privilege of reading the draft of this book just as it was sent to print. It had me in tears; tears of deep sadness but also tears of joy. That Laurie and her father have had the opportunity, and seized it, to reminisce, to share, once again, those moments in their lives where they enjoyed so many wonderful experiences together. Yet, the book is so much more than just a trip down memory lane; it is a poignant reminder to us all that death is an inevitable consequence of life and that we should all embrace it, without fear.
My good friend Yvonne Heath, in her book “Love Your Life to Death”, shares that many, if not most, of us are ill prepared for the inevitable end-of-life experience. That, as a culture, we avoid the subject which, inevitably, results in more, and unnecessary, suffering when that time comes. Unbeknownst to them, in this memoir, Laurie and Peter have embodied the guiding principles that Yvonne sets forth. They have seized the opportunity that they were given and have shared quality time together. Time as a family, time as dad and daughter, time as two people who clearly love each other deeply. They have chosen to embrace the time that they have and do something substantial with it. In turn, this work is an inspiration to the rest of us; a wake up call to prepare ourselves for our own passing and for that of those we love.
As you might expect from the Goodman’s, the photography is exquisite and Laurie’s prose eloquent and vulnerable. It is a deeply touching read with the added benefit of knowing that, for each book sold, a donation is being made to the Guelph Chemotherapy Clinic where Peter has been treated, so well, over the past 5 years since his diagnosis.
From the bottom of my heart thank you, Laurie and Peter, for this gift of life well lived.

Congratulations Laurie, a touching story to tell and a tribute to the “King”, he will be thrilled. The family has not only memories but a tangible recreation of a life well lived!

For those who know me, I am rarely speechless but that is exactly how this beautiful book left me… Right from the first word I was drawn in. Drawn in to a world where real experiences happen; not the adrenaline kind, but the feeling kind. The kind of experiences that feel like the warmth of a summer day. The kind that you are taken right back to with a simple smell or song. I could feel the emotion in every photo, every word. This memoir is the perfect reminder for every one of us to live life now and dive into every moment like it’s our last…

This book, though hard to read due to my proximity to the subject matter, fulfilled all of the criteria for a great story. It made ma laugh. It made me cry. It made me think. It made me smile. It made me realize how important it is to live life in the moment and not let time go by before telling those you love how you feel. Though the coming months are going to be harder than any others we have yet to experience together, I am grateful that Laurie had the opportunity to bring these words and images to life in such a heartfelt, expressive way. Though this story is very personal to me and my family, I would recommend it to anyone. Hopefully it inspires others to truly tell their loved ones how they feel about them before it is too late.

Bravo my love. I am here for you and we will get through this together. These memories will never leave us.

And to the King I say thank you. Thank you for the images. Thank you for the stories. Thank you for giving me the love of my life, Laurie Moose. You will live on through your work and our memories.

I am so proud of our daughter for writing this inspiring book! I know it help families to open up conversations before it’s too late. It is Peter’s wish to donate all the profits from the book sales to Guelph Chemotherapy unit. The nurses that cared for him while he was having his treatments were and are the very best!

    * I am in awe; in awe of a man who is everything a man should be, of all the lives he touched and filled with joy, and of all the priceless moments he captured forever.

    * In my book, I’ve written a chapter, “Opportunity Awaits in the Dying Process.” Your journey with your Dad, the one you have chosen to take instead of being paralyzed by your grief, epitomizes my message. We always have a choice. We do not always have the choice we wish we had, but we can choose what we do about what we’ve been given. You have taken this opportunity-denied to many-to re-visit old memories, to create new ones, to hear more stories, to be present. What you have created is joy at the end of life for your Dad and a forever gift for all those who will be left to grieve. What a beautiful wonderful part of your Dad’s Legacy and a tremendous lesson for the world. Thank you for your generous heart!

You know when you meet someone and you immediately know that you want to get to know the person better because you feel an instant connection? This is exactly how I felt when I first met Laurie 3 years ago- she was actually one of the very first people I met as we had just moved here- I was immediately drawn to her sweet & caring nature. We were instant friends from the get go and we have had many pep talks and laughs over these few years.
I was, and still am, so ecstatic for her when she started the “Goosebumps” journey and have been there supporting her along the way in any way that I possibly could with each book that she has put out.
Although I have only met Peter, and the rest of Laurie’s family, a few times , the love they all have for one another is very obvious to everyone that sees them all together.
I was truly touched and honoured when asked to read “Moose with a Lion Heart” and was instantly in tears from page 1. From someone that doesn’t have this kind of relationship with my own Dad, the close bond between Laurie & Peter is truly amazing to see in every way. I shed tears of joy and tears of sadness as I read what Laurie, Peter, Lynda, Jeff and everyone else wrote – I was so overcome with so many different emotions, I couldn’t even put it into words to my husband that night. I did come away with something after reading this book and have already started making some changes in my personal life and relationships- I WILL make the most of every day with my loved ones and strengthen relationships so that we can live in the moment NOW and not have any regrets when it is too late to do anything to change them. Thank you Laurie, Peter, Lynda, Jeff, and everyone else for contributing to this book- it truly is remarkable! – Julie
